My monitor display has shifted to the right?

I was on my computer earlier today and I opened up my internet browser. Everything worked fine until the internet began to lag as usual.

I turned off my computer using the big box thing (sorry don't know what's it called). The thing with all the plugs i it. Kind of like an extension cord, but it's big fat and square. Anyways I took off the computer by pressing the switch on that thing.

When I booted up my computer again I realized that everything SHIFTED TO THE RIGHT. I can't see the icons in the task bar. That includes MSN and my internet connection status.

When I go on the internet I can't read the text properly because half the document has shifted.

I have to change my display settings to 1280x768 pixels. It works OK I guess but everything is kind of blurry. I can still read but it feels weird though.

But the problem I'm the kind of guy that likes everything how I originally had it. I need to get it back to 1440x900 without i shifting to the right.

Did I by chance mess up my monitor. Could I have possibly crapped up my hardrive.

Please help me out. I just got my computer back from repairs 2 months ago an it's fing up on me.My monitor display has shifted to the right?
Your monitor will have an auto-adjust button. Change the resolution back to 1440x900 and press the auto button on the monitor.

Help! Windows upgraded, and no longer supports my display driver?

My Acer Extensa 5630Z Laptop computer installed with 32 bit Vista Home Premium updated ( I don't even know what it updated) and then apparently stopped supporting my graphics card or driver. All of my screen savers won't work. I get this message:

';The screen saver can't run because it requires a newer video card or one that's compatible with Direct3D.';

When trying to change my display settings I get this message:

';The currently selected graphics display driver can no be used. It was written for a previous version of windows and is no longer compatible with this version of windows.

The system has been started using the default VGA driver.

Please contact your hardware manufacturer to get an upgraded driver, or select one of the Microsoft provided drivers.';

Systems info says my display is a Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family I've updated the driver for this and it did nothing.

Every once in a while, my computer will quit displaying and then restart. A pop up message tells me my driver quit and recovered.

Upgrade your graphic drivers too !! Just visit your card manufacturers site and down 64 bit drivers ( those are vista compatible) and install them ... That must solve the issue.... Better similarly upgrade your mobo and audio drivers to 64 bit versions ... more on drivers ....

You can select the monitor buy Pressing Fn (function control key) and one of the Function key (F1 to F12) at the same time. Keys combination depends on the manufacturer. For Toshiba laptop it is Fn + F5. You can check the symbol on the function key or refer to a manual.

Please note that it will take few seconds before monitor selection is effective. Therefore, you should press the key combination, wait couple of seconds and press again if necessary. Monitor selection will toggle between built-in, external, built-in + eternal etc. in a sequence with graphic indication on the monitor. Check if your TV's specifications say if it has a VGA port or not. If it does look at the sidepanels of your laptop where you may find a VGA port too. Now you just need a VGA cable to connect between your laptop and TV/External Monitor.

I own a HP pavilion which are known for their plagued faulty displays.

Recently my display has developed the same problem, and a dark patch is slowly growing and dominating my display.

Since I use my laptop for Hi-end gaming and entertainment I'm concerned that my graphics card will have to work harder, and with a loss in performance.

Therefore, when my Laptop display becomes unusable, what I would like to do is change the display settings so that my external display becomes the primary display rather than the secondary display.

i just got my laptop upgraded to Windows 7 professional awhile ago

today i forgot what but i ran a program and suddenly the display theme changed to Windows 7 basic automatically.

which made things very weird. i really dont like it and found it inconvenient.

please help me out.

the task bar used to be black/grey ish. i didnt change it when i first got it it was just like that and i liked it. but now its like light blue. and it used to be kind of clear that u could see through the task bar even see your wall paper through the task bar. but now its just blue. how do i change it back?

2. when i first got windows 7. one thing i liked a lot is when u put ur mouse on one of ur program's icon dont click it, a little print screen shot of that program will show up. i dont know how to explain it but yeah hope you can understand. but yea after it changed now i put my mouse on it its just the title of that window/program, no image. i really liked that feature.

how can i have these features or settings back? i didnt change any display settings after i got it upgraded. it should be default settings but i dont know what to do. plz how me out here

If you do indeed have Professional, and not Starter, then the Personalize control panel should have Aero themes and Basic/High Contrast Themes.

Click on the desktop and pick ';Personalize';. Switch to an Aero theme, and many of the settings should return.

If for some reason the Aero themes aren't there, you might have to reinstall Windows, as there isn't an easy way to restore them.Someone help me with Windows 7's display theme and task bar!?

2. To Change the Theme - A) Click on one of the available themes.

3. To Create a Custom Theme -

NOTE: Any changes that you make to a theme that you have already saved will automatically be updated and saved to it. There will be no need to save it as a new theme again in step 4 below unless you want a new theme.

A) Change the Desktop Background picture and settings.

B) Change the Window Color and Appearance settings.

C) Change the Sounds for the Windows 7 sound events to any sound file that you would like instead.

E) Change, add, or remove any Desktop Icons that you want to with.

these settings use more power so u will have ur lapi discharged 25% faster.....and these settings r not recommended for laptops for business purposes..... if u wanna use ur lapi for long and will face prob. if it's discharged fully i recommend u to use win default themes and settings as they consume less battery power...

i went to system prefrences and went to display, and accidently changed the resoultion, after clicking it by accident, i put it to 1024 X 768 stretched, but it still doesn't look how it did before, how can i switch this to default?Reset Mac display settings to default?
Almost all Mac settings are stored in a Preferences file somewhere. In your case, the file in question is:

/Library/Preferences/com.apple.windows?br>

In English, that means that if you double-click Macintosh HD, there will be a folder there called Library. Open it, then in the Library folder, go to the folder called Preferences. Grab the file com.apple.windowserver.plist, and move it to the Desktop.

Reboot.

You should be good.

i've recently downloaded a game called frets on fire, and tried playing it. well first of all... i cant play it (well thats not really the point XD) secondly.. cause while trying to play it, it kinda froze so i clicked on CTRL+ALT+DELETE and tried to close it... but then my screen was about twice as big as its suppose to be. and i tried to run the game again and close it correctly, restart my computer, and change display settings. but it doesnt work... so please help if you know a way to get my screen back to its original sizeHow to shrink my screen ): pleaseee help?
this is a resolution setting which the game probalbly reset for it's own purposes and when closed properly sets abck to normal. depending on which os your'e using, you need to find the res setting and reset it. in xp, right click anywhere on a blank area of the desktop, select properties, then resolution. then lside the setting to change and select apply to see if that is the correct setting.How to shrink my screen ): pleaseee help?
I dont know about win xp but In vista you right click on the desktop go to pesonalize the destop resolution I think (it's the bottom one) the put the bar to to the highest i think this also applies to 7.

How to fix display problems in windows XP?

Please pay attention to these premises:

- Someone else's computer monitor display got messed up so no image registers on the screen when the computer reboots.

- The computer CAN boot safely in safe mode, and the computer monitor shows safe mode properly. Yet, if you modify the display settings there, they don't translate to non-safe mode - so the problem remains.

- The computer is a laptop whose original screen doesn't work, so another monitor was set-up to use with this laptop. This second, standalone monitor is the one that now is not showing an image.

- I don't know what settings this person changed in display (again, I was not the person involved), but I believe it was the Display choice of monitor - that's why when the computer reboots, it sends its image to the laptop display (which is broken), and that's why we have the problem.

Essentially, then, I need to change the display settings in this computer - but cannot do it from safe-mode. Some ideas I have are:

- Save all relevant documents and reinstall XP.

- System Restore: I tried it, but it didn't work. The computer shows the same problem, even after trying different restore points.

- Create another user profile and work from that one.

- It's not the cables or the monitor itself (again, the monitor works with safe-mode).

The rule is cell phone use. Period. It's not talking on the phone or texting on the phone. It's a rule that encompasses cell phones overall. I think you have a case, but whether it is worth your while to argue about it is another question. Veh C 23123.5 prohibits ';using an electronic device to write, send, or read a text-based communication.'; The statute specifically defines that term as meaning ';to manually communicate with any person using a text-based communication . . . .'; One of the specific exceptions to the law is entering a telephone number into the device.

I think it will be just about impossible to prove a violation of this law, since, contrary to what others here are saying, it is NOT unlawful to use the device unless you are using it to communicate with somebody. How is any officer going to know whether you were using it to communicate or, as you say, to change settings, etc.? In a trial, I would ask the officer one question: ';Do you know whether I was using the device to send or receive a communication to or from another person?'; The answer will obviously be ';no,'; and the charge will not be proven.

However, this is going to cost you only about $141. It is not a point, and has no effect on your license or your insurance. So the question is whether or not the hassle of going to court will be worth it. Sounds like instead of extending your desktop you want to split it or have 2 separate desktops (one showing on the TV and the other on the laptop).

I just got a used computer and when i start it up, the monitor says:

Start the machine in safe mode by pressing F8 several times before Windows starts, and enable VGA mode. Then change the video resolution.

Minimize any open windows, then right click on the desktop wall paper. Properties, Settings:

Change the resolution to 1280x1024, then click, Advanced, Monitor: and change the refresh rate to 60Hz. Ok, Ok,

If that works on rebooting in normal mode, then you can try to up it to 72Hz to avoid flickering. It will be easier on your eyes.

I have a Toshiba A75-S213 laptop with an ATI mobility radeon 9000 integrated graphics card. I downloaded and installed new drivers for it and connected the s-video to composite cable correctly from my laptop to the TV. When I change display settings with [fn] - [F5], the TV flickers then remains black. I also tried to turn s-video on under the ';display'; tab under the advanced display properties with no success. Check the installed software that accompanies the ATi graphics card. Mine has it's own seperate software to use to 'switch' from single to dual monitors, which overrides the ones in my regular display settings. good luck to ya! :)

On Windows, how to set my dual monitors vertically, by default?

When I plug my laptop in at the office, I have an LCD monitor stacked vertically behind it, on a riser. I change display settings so that the mouse runs vertically between the monitors, which works great.

The only thing is when I plug in, it always defaults to horizontal, left to right, so each and every morning I have to personalize my display settings to change the orientation.

This could only work if your video card software (not drivers) supports multiple profiles.

I know that my ATI drivers on my work PC has this option, and it works great... but it will depend on what you have for software and drivers.

I bought the mini-DVI to Video adapter (the one that uses either S-Video, or the yellow video cable.) I hooked to TV using a yellow cable, but the TV says that I am getting no signal. Even though you are using an adapter, the signal being put out is still meant for a DVI screen. There usually will be a display setting that will tell your display adapter to put out either a s-video or composite video signal from the DVI output.

On the apple adapter website, it says the only systems compatible are the Mac Pro (with ATI X1900 XT), MacBook Pro, Mac mini or Power Mac G5 with DVI port..

Check the specs to see if the port is DVI-I or DVI-D. If you have a DVI-I then you should be able to change a setting somewhere to change the signal from digital to analogue. When it's hooked up, you should be able to edit the display mode in the system preferences. Click on the apple icon and then click on System Preferences. You should see a window with a bunch of icons come up. Look for the Hardware sub title and click on the Displays icon. You should be able to edit your displays in there choosing either extended desktop or clone.

You can do it that way, or if you are on a photo that you have been tagged in, jus underneath to the right there the list of options, e.g tag someone, etc.

Theres an option called 'Make my Profile Picture' click this and then drag and select the area you want to have as your pic. Then jus above the picture click Done Cropping and et viola!! You're profile pic has changed!

How come I can't find the right resolution on my monitor?

I have just installed a new graphics card, because my old one broke, and now when I go to change the display settings on my monitor, there is no correct resolution for it to work. It is meant to be 1440 by 900, but that option isn't there. It is almost like my computer doesn't recognize my monitor anymore, so everything is out of proportion.

By the way, I am running Windows Vista Home Premium, and my updated graphics card is an nvidia 8400 GS.How come I can't find the right resolution on my monitor?
Sounds like the drivers aren't Correctly Installed go to Nvidia.com download the new driver for your Vista Machine. This is probably fix the problem.

Display problems with my laptop?

Okay, here's the deal. When I turn on my computer everything is fine, the loading page for windows vista comes on, but when it switches to the desktop main screen, the resolution becomes large and pixelated. So I do what every normal person would do and open contro panel. Then I click on display settings and change my resolution to High. I save the settings and everything seems to be okay. Now here's what gets me. When I open an internet browser it turns the resolution and becomes pixelated once again. So I have to constantly keep my personalization tab up while I'm browsing the net to change the display settings constantly. Any Ideas on how to fix this little problem?Display problems with my laptop?

You can't you see the black bars because of the aspect ratio of each video. One possible way to remove them manually is if you zoom in (where you can of course-you can't in youtube), but then you will lose some portion of the content you are viewing.

Right-click on your desktop and select “personalize” from the menu. Click on “display settings.” In the next window, make sure that the monitor with the number 2 on it is marked as attached. If that’s all there, you should be good to go. Check the inputs on your TV, you might have to change the input channel (like on mine I have to change it to computer or side).

Multi-standard TVs detect and switch automatically to PAL or NTSC as needed. You don't need to do anything.

Sharp is a well known brand, so any programmable universal control may work with it in case you need to change something else.

I think you have to use HDMI for the 360 to upconvert DVDs.

Why do my computer's display settings keep changing?

There are two user accts. on our home computer. This is only so we can personalize our display settings, since my eyesight requires the fonts be larger than the ';normal'; settings, and my fiance prefers smaller fonts.

It WAS working fine until just recently. Now, EVERY single time I switch users to go onto ';my side'; of the computer MY settings are what his were changed to. Same thing happens when he switches to his side, he has to reset all his display settings again because they've changed to my settings. What gives??? It's not really that big of a deal, but it is a pain when you're in a hurry! Any ideas how to fix this, to keep each user's preferences as they are set?

This is odd, they should stay personalized per user. Check the Users folder and be sure that for each account there exists a folder (one for you and one for him). I am not 100% sure but I don't believe Microsoft implemented a way to override each user's settings. Try completely logging off each user account and then rebooting the computer. My only other suggestion would be to contact the Manufacturer of the computer for some assistance as this is highly irregular.

Then if you see any other screws unscrew them.

Try to pry the glass screen off the front, but don't worry if you can't get it off, it will just take a bit longer.

Update your display drivers. It sounds like the OS is using the default drivers...

goto www.ibm.com Select on download drivers. You will need to put in the series number XXXX. Once downloaded run the installer and reboot.

If you have different Video card than what was shipped with the system then you need to go to that manufacture web site and down load the drivers from them. Does is give you an error when you try to open the display settings? Try right clicking on your desktop and then selecting Properties...that will open up Display Properties also.

You need to pull your battery out when the phone is on, leave it out for a minute, and then power it back up. You should be doing that once a week anyways.. I've seen this on a Touch before..

you need to select a widescreen resolution on the PC... like 1280x720, 1366x768
right click on a blank area of the desktop and click properties

click settings

you'll see a slider move it to the right a little until you get the resolution and screen display you want then click apply, if it's ok on the next screen click on to accept it.

if you get the resolution wrong and you can't see anything don't panic widows will revert to normal after 15 seconds if you haven't pressed the ok button to accept it

There's a ';zoom'; size control in the bottom right corner of the window. (You should see a magnifying glass icon, and percentage number in it)

Click on the down arrow next to it, and select a number that's smaller than the one you've currently got.

Sounds like you need to reinstall the video driver. If you've got a wide screen monitor, the default driver won't match the aspect ratio of the screen and the monitor has to stretch it out to make it fit.

You have to be very careful when you start messing around with the settings on your computer. Trying to dial things in perfectly is something that should left to people who really know what they're doing.

The first thing you should always do, is write the settings down as the are before you start fiddling with resolutions, color quality, themes and what not. Do you even know your default settings?

Try 1024 X 768 pixels and the 32 Bit on the color quality. This MIGHT be at least a starting point for you to work from. Next time, leave it to someone that knows what they're doing.
