You've got good advice but do this first; Right click on ';my computer'; click on properties, Hardware, Device Manager. Now see if your ';Display Adapter'; has a red X or yellow ! next to it. You may have to load the software drivers. Windoze will normally default to a pretty high resolution unless it has just installed the ';standard VGA adapter';. If this is the case your going to have to open up your case and look at the adapter. Get the brand and model number off it and then go to the appropriate web site and download the drivers.

Good LuckHow do i change my display settings when i dont no what display adapter i have?
why not install the display adapter for you display, you can find out in google index!
you should be able to right click on the desktop and click on properties and go to the display tab. If that doesn't work try going to start%26gt;control panel and then click on appearance and themes and then on display it should bring up your display properties

if you lost a driver or something, maybe you can check to see if you are missing a driver? if you right click on my computer and go to properties and then click on hardware and click on device manager if you are missing something there will be a yellow ! next to it.
madder doesn't know. try installing NVIDIA drivers first, and it that doesn't work, uninstall the NVIDIA drivers, and try the ATI drivers. There is no program that diagnoses your graphics card vendor that I know of.
If you are using a windows Machine, you should be able to get a clue of what the hardware is... Go to My Computer (right click)%26gt; Properties %26gt; Hardware %26gt; Click on Device Manager

Under Display Adapters it will list the hardware name and you can find out the generic drivers for it from the web. Some times you can right click on the hardware and say ';update drivers'; and if you are lucky Microsoft will try to find the right drivers for ya.

Hope that helps.
I'm not sure when you say computer crashed and wiped everything out. I will assume you reinstalled the OS and only the default 640 x 480 resolution with 64 colors is available. If you have a vendor computer system such as HP, Dell, or Gateway then you need to go to their website and click on the support /driver link. Browse the website for your model and OS and it will list the video drivers for your model computer. Download the driver and install it. This will give you all the display options available for your computer.
1024 X 768 THATS MOST TRY IT
