.. but when I double click on Display I cannot scroll down to click Apply as the Display Properties box is too big for teh screen. How can I get around this?How do I change the desktop settings in Win SE?

The 'shortcut' to the 'Apply' button is Alt a .. hold down the 'Alt' key, press 'a' key
